When we say 18 is the age of maturity—the age at which we’re considered adults—it’s sort of an arbitrary number. Yes, we should have received enough education and guidance at that point to take care of ourselves. But actual maturity? That’s up for debate.
And there’s a great reason young folks should resist the urge to be adults: It’s hard work. Being responsible all the time, cleaning up your own messes—and trying not to make new ones—paying bills, making appointments, having to do your own laundry and dishes, and balancing it all with a job… it’s not for everyone. It’s hard to blame anybody for not wanting to adult today.
